4 Months Old…

March 30th, 2011

So the boy turned a whopping 4 months old last week…

He was quite excited when we told him the news…

But not so excited when we offered him rice cereal for the first time…

This photo of the standoff between father and son made me think what life will be like in 10 years…

“eat your peas…I don’t want to!!!”

DIY Foot Stool

March 28th, 2011

You guys are gonna love this one!

Remember back when Mr. vB and I renovated our Kitchen?  Well we kept a lot of the old cabinet fronts thinking we might be able to reuse them one day.  {on what I wasn’t quite sure at the time}

Fast forward about 6 months when we were knee deep in our Nursery Design.   I randomly commented to Mr. vB that I really wanted to get a foot stool to use with my glider.  Next thing I knew, he had whipped out one of the old cabinet fronts, and was attaching 4 legs that he had picked up from Lowe’s.  How Cool!

Once the legs were securely attached, I painted them the same yellow color that I used on the nightstand and the DIY Bulletin Board.

The next step was to add some cushioning to the top.

I picked up a piece of foam from the fabric store along with some batting and some fun buttons! {I already had the fabric, as I was going to just use left overs from the crib bedding}

The first step was to cut the foam to size.

Then the batting…

And finally the fabric…

To add some interest to the top, I used these cute felt buttons to create some tufts.

I used a SUPER LONG needle to secure each button to the foam/batting/fabric combo.

Here’s the Finished Product…

Now I’m not 100% pleased at the technique I used to secure the fabric to the drawer front.  It was harder than I thought to get the batting and fabric to smoothly flow around the legs.  I think it looks a bit bulky, but I was rushed to get it done before vannyB woke up.  It will do for now, but I’ll probably try to redo it one day when I have a little more time.

But I’m loving the overall look and what a great inexpensive way to get the foot stool I wanted!

March 23rd, 2011

I’m excited to report that more progress has been made on the back of our house.

{for the recap on the entire project go here}

With the help of our neighbor Bill, another exterior wall was demo’d of old aluminum siding, shingles and the MONSTER  AC unit that no longer worked.

I didn’t get a good photo of the before demo- but the “during” ain’t much better.

Can you see where 2 windows use to be?

And no- Bill didn’t remove anything from those openings.  That is what he found when he ripped the siding off. I’m kinda feeling like I’m in an episode of Holmes on Holmes.  Let’s make it Right People…yes- that was my best Mike Holmes impersonation.

Bill added some 2×4′s to the openings to “properly” fill them in and then we are going to insulate and put plywood over top of that.  Then that side will be finished! Two down, one more to go!

Here’s an interior shot of my office where the AC unit used to live.

And where it is currently located…

It hasn’t moved in 3 days.  Yeah- nothing says get to work like a big AC unit sitting beside your desk.

Hopefully this weekend we can relocate it to the curb!!

Getting Into Trouble..

March 13th, 2011

And I blame it all on this little squish…

See, he likes to get up at least one to two times every night for a snack, which means his momma has to be awake and functioning.  To keep myself from dosing off, I use my trusty iPhone to read design blogs.  This is where I find myself getting into trouble!  My mind starts racing about painting this, or building that and next thing I know the sun is up and the day is ready to start!

My latest obsession/project is redoing my office.  I work from home so I spend ALOT of time in this room.  It is currently functional, but I also want it to be fun.  I want to feel inspired when I walk into it, cause right now all I see a big MESS!

Here are some blogger’s offices that I AM LOVING!!

From 6th Street Design School

From Me Oh My

From Making it Lovely

{Do you see a trend with the Ikea Expedit bookshelf unit?    I have one of them too!  Maybe that is why I am drawn to these rooms!}

I feel like there were 3 or 4 more home offices that I have been stalking, but that is the one drawback of surfing the in the middle of the night.  I FORGET where I’ve been or how to get back to that awesome idea that I want to borrow! Oh well- I’m sure I will come across them again at some point.  {But do check out some of the new reads I have added to my blogroll!}

On to my list of items that I would like to acquire or create:

1. A New Desk and Filing System

2. Floor Length Drapes hopefully in a black/white chevron pattern

3. A gently used chandelier that I can spray paint {maybe hot pink?!}

4. And last but not least some new storage items {baskets/boxes} for filing all my crap away!

So there you have it.  Stay Tuned for updates.

Am hoping to get the new desk and book shelf  in the next week or so, which means I’m putting my old stuff on craigslist- anyone need a desk? But in the meantime I want to get the new floor plan pinned down.  Then once the furniture arrives I can get to work on the finishing touches/organization which is always the fun part!

The Back Page

March 5th, 2011

I was told the other day by my neighbor friend {thanks Heidi!} that b& was featured in a local magazine called Richmond Magazine R*Home.

Sure enough, when I got my hands on a copy, I flipped to the last page {or as they call it- The Back Page} to find my website listed as one to “check out”…

Here it is, up close and personal…

Yeah!  Whoo-Hoo!  How awesome is that?!

Thanks R*Home for the shout out!!
