Thanks to all my peeps out there that sent us Christmas cards…

I loved going to the mailbox everyday to find stacks of envelopes that weren’t bills or junk mail!!

I’ve seen tons of cute ways to display them on pinterest, but call me old fashion.  I just like to stick them in my card holder that’s hanging on the wall in my kitchen.

see any familiar faces?!

{hey there- lylah, sutton, luke, quin, battley cate, hayden, liam, henry, margaret, trav, gus, maddy, philip, lily, davis, graham, abbie, wade, holland, leah, edie, griffin, alice, sadie, judd, cooper, bobby, evie, peliah and heis}

Did everyone get our card in the mail?

Sorry- inside joke, as these vB’s didn’t get around to xmas cards this year.  Not sure why.  Maybe it’s the sky-rocketting cost of cards these days, or not finding the right photo?  Perhaps you’ll all find Valentine’s Day cards from us in your mailbox come February.  But don’t anyone hold their breath.. ha-ha.

I did want to share some cute family photos that we had taken a few weeks ago… Several were in the running for the “xmas card that never happened”.

And my favorite of them all…

Happy {and Safe} New Years Everyone!

xoxo the vB’s

Christmas, Family

Home for the Holidays…

December 19th, 2012

Happy Holidays Ya’ll!

Per normal, I feel like they sneak up on me and then I am rushing to keep up.

So let’s see, since we last spoke my “baby” celebrated his 2nd birthday!

We also hung with the family down in Newport News for Turkey Day…

and vanny got to share some special time with his great grandmother- Mamie.

Now we are a week away from xmas and Momma “might have” bought herself an early xmas gift today.

I’ve been saving my hard earned pennies for an Upholstered Headboard for our master bed and today I pulled the trigger!  I used a 15% off coupon and then scored free shipping because it’s National Free Shipping Day {who knew}!  So my normally $540 headboard was only $400!!!

Here’s what my new beauty will look like…

Notched Headboard with Nailhead Trim…Home Decorators Collection

I’m also dreaming up some new pillow shams, bedside tables, and artwork.

And for fun, here’s the progression of the master bedroom to date..

Look what was hiding under that wall to wall carpet…

Bye-Bye blue trim…

Hello Ceiling Fan…

I’m actually kind of embarrassed to show how un-put together the master bedroom is.  The addition of the carpet helped a lot and I think the headboard will break up that large wall behind the bed.  Then with some small dressers on each side of the bed as bedside tables it hopefully will look an adult lives here and not a college student.

Will let you guys know once the headboard arrives. Now I’ve got to get busy preparing for the family that is arriving on Friday.  Mr. vB and I are hosting both his and my families for our first Christmas in the new house!

Baby vB, Birthday, Christmas

Holiday Time!

December 22nd, 2011

It took awhile to recover from the big birthday and turkey day, but now we are in full Christmas Mode!

vannyB was a trooper seeing Santa this year.

You wouldn’t know from his photo though.

It took a mere HOUR and A HALF of waiting in line to see Mr. Claus, but that didn’t phase vanny.  As soon as we got close enough for van to see him, he had the biggest grin on his face!  He squealed and laughed and even walked right up to Santa, BUT sitting on the lap was a different story!

And here are our Holly Jolly Decorations!

We decided on a mini tree this year partly because the ones we normally get {tall and lanky} were not available, but also because we weren’t sure how Mr. Go-Go Gadget Arms would be with the tree and ornaments.

Here’s our beauty! Short and Sweet!

van LOVES turning the lights on and off with the remote.

Every morning we count to three and turn the lights on with a big grin!  It’s my favorite!!

Here’s the Mantle..

I’m LOVING the gold wreath over the artwork.  {Wonder if it could stay up year round?}

I also love our Christmas stockings…

And here is what the outside of the house looks like!

the rope lights are back!!

and so is the painted pumpkin stack!

Maybe next year I’ll actually get ALL the xmas decorations up prior to the week before Xmas.

Who am I kidding?!

Happy Holidays!- the vB’s

Baby vB, Christmas

My New “DIY” Partner in Crime

December 1st, 2010

So my boy van is not even 2 weeks old yet, but he is already helping momma with some DIY projects.

{Here’s a photo of my little helper before we headed out to pick up our supplies.}

During one of van’s late night feedings, I was surfing the w{orld} w{ide} w{eb} and this awesome gold wreath over at Urban Grace Interiors caught my eye.  {mimicking is the sincerest form of flattery right?!}

So yesterday’s project was to make a new Christmas wreath for the front door and to paint my pumpkins green!

Off to Michael’s we went in search of a similar wreath and some gold spray paint.  Here’s what I found…

And then we, well my mums actually, spray painted it gold..

And viola… An awesome new gold wreath for our front door!

And don’t forget about my pumpkin Xmas Tree.  Remember it looked like this for Halloween and Thanksgiving.

And then with the help of a little green spray paint…

A very Merry Xmas Tree complete with a star on top!

Still need to do a few finishing touches on both, then I will show the whole shebang.

In the meantime I will leave you with another photo of my boy.  I figured you wouldn’t mind…

Christmas, Gettin Crafty!

Christmas Tree Pumpkins??

December 28th, 2009

Mr. vB and I were walking the Boots and the Bae this evening and I spotted the cutest thing on a neighbor’s porch!

It took me a minute to figure out what this Christmas Tree was made of.  Can you tell?

The homeowner had painted her Halloween pumpkins green and then stacked them on top of each other.  She also added a gold star.   What a great reuse of pumpkins!

I hated to throw my out pumpkins when Dec 1st rolled around.. too bad I didn’t walk past this house sooner!  I told Mr. vB I definitely wanted to try this out next year.  Will someone remind me of this come October?? {ha-ha}

Christmas, Mrs.vB

’twas the night before Christmas…

December 27th, 2009

and all through the Edwards house, not a creature was stirring, except for the 2 yr old running around in the cutest smocked outfit ever.

My brother and his wife hosted Mr. vB and myself for xmas this year, along with my parents, and Mr. vB’s brother, his wife and their kids.  {Unfortunately the other vB’s came down with a horrible respiratory virus just days before xmas and they all had to stay quarantined.  Don’t worry- we sent them food and presents!} We normally celebrate Christmas at my parents house in Newport News, but since their house is still under construction from the fire, we decided to switch things up this year!  Thanks so much to Travers and Marty for hosting us!  We had such a great time and your new house was the perfect spot to celebrate Christmas.

Christmas Eve

At least he wasn’t putting the crayon in his mouth!

Baby T was quite excited about his new name puzzle from Cece and Honey.

Honey read Twas the night Before Xmas and then it was time for bed!

Next was the fun part! Putting together Santa’s gifts for Baby Travers.

Everyone was in on the fun!

Christmas Day

After a yummy breakfast we opened our Christmas Stockings.

Then we moved all the presents downstairs and tried to get Baby T to come see what Santa had brought.

He seemed to be in a bit of shock when he saw it all!

Santa was very good to me this year and he apparently read my blog post about my dining room face-lift.  My mums has offered to help me sew new dining room drapes and recover the new dining room chair seats.  I’ve got an idea of what I want- now I just need to find it.  No sweat-right?!

Hope everyone enjoys the last days of 2009!  2010 is going to be here before we know it!!

Christmas, Family, Holiday Traditions

Merry Merry!

December 25th, 2009

Mr. vB and I have spent a wonderful Christmas Day with both of our families.  We took a slew of photos and are currently uploading them all.

In the meantime, I wanted to tell you guys about the Christmas dinner I had with my girlfriends on the Eve of Christmas Eve.  We have started a great tradition of swapping letters to each other, versus swapping gifts.  The first year, we each drew another person’s name and were in charge of making that person a keepsake box.  Here’s mine…

Every year since, we have added notes and photos to the box.  I cherish looking back through the box and reading all the notes.  These gals and I go all the way back to Freshman Year of College and have been there for each other through the highs and lows of life. I love ‘em like sisters.

So back to dinner.. we all LOVE the restaurant Acacia mid-town.

{from left to right: Jennifer Saval, Sarah Wilson, and Greta Kidd}

We enjoyed some fabulous food and wine, and the amazing company of each other!

Merry Christmas to all! Luh’ you girls!

White Christmas

December 19th, 2009

Here is a sight that I have not seen in a long time!!

DSC_0181Christmas Tree + Snow= White Christmas

Virginia is getting slammed with a winter storm this weekend.  I think we currently have 9″-12″ of snow on the ground in Richmond and we are expecting more by afternoon.

Mr.vB and I have not ventured out yet, just the dogs.  And let me tell you, Boots is NOT a fan of this weather.  I couldn’t get him to go out this AM for his morning tinkle.  I swear he kept his back 2 legs in the door as he relieved himself!

Here’s some shots of our backyard from the warmth of our back room.

So much for finishing up any of my xmas shopping today!  I don’t think we will be going anywhere anytime soon, unless it is on foot!

Christmas, Dogs

Deck the halls..

December 14th, 2009

Now that the outside of our house was properly decorated, Mr.vB and I focused on getting the inside up to snuff this past weekend.  We headed out first thing Saturday morning to our favorite Christmas tree lot on the north side of town.  Mr.vB’s dad has gotten us hooked on these super tall, super lanky Charlie Brown Trees and since we have 9′ ceilings I was going for the MAX height this year!!

After a small fight with the xmas tree stand, to which the tree fell over TWICE, we were up and ready to get decorating!

Here’s a close up of my homemade Angel atop the tree.

DSC_0083She still needs a face and some hair, but I think she is pretty cute.  My mom and I made this angel last year out of an old sheet soaked in liquid starch and then molded around a cup until it dried.  We copied the one she and my dad made over 30 years ago.  Thank goodness we did, because my mom’s angel was destroyed in the fire.  She and I were hoping to make her a new one to put on her tree this year, but we have run out of time.  Look for a tutorial after the new year- they are super easy to make!

Here’s the finished product!

DSC_0109I’m in love with Christopher Radko ornaments- a bad habit that my mom has started.  Here is one of my favorite’s- the bride and groom.  Here’s another I grabbed for Mr.vB last year..

DSC_0110And here’s the rest of the house.

I love my view from the sofa.

DSC_0130Why isn’t it acceptable to have Christmas Tree’s up year round??

Mixing it up..

December 9th, 2009

When it comes to exterior Christmas decorations, normally Mr. vB and I stick to the basic wreath on the door and white candles in the windows.  This year, however, Mr, vB has decided to mix it up.  This is what I found when I got home from work today.

lights9 boxes of LED rope lights on the counter and 6 more boxes on the floor.

When I asked what exactly we were going to do with all these lights, Mr. vB let me in on his little plan.

Here is the exterior of our house before..

And After 15 boxes of LED lights…

The inspiration came from houses we saw on Monument Ave with similar rope lights spilling over the balconies.

Kinda funky.. kinda fun!

It’s making me rethink my wreath though! I might need to do something a little less traditional than the ornaments that are on my current wreath.  I saw in a magazine yesterday the idea of spray painting a wreath.  Wouldn’t a bright red wreath be cool, or maybe a lime green wreath??

I did also replace my Confederate Jasmine with the cutest little fir tree ever.

DSC_0044Guess I gotta get some funky decorations for this guy too!

I see a busy weekend in my future! Stay Tuned!!
