DIY- Crib Skirt and Bumper Pads

November 7th, 2010

Have I ever told you what an Amazing, Talented, and Overall Awesome Woman my Mother is?

When I told her that I was throwing around the idea of doing custom crib bedding, she jumped in wholeheartedly to help me out.  It was my job to find the perfect fabric and then she was going to literally “make it” all happen.  {Both easier said than done!}

Well after searching and searching, I ended up finding the perfect fabrics at Hawthorne Threads.  The bed skirt fabric is by Heather Bailey- Pop Garden in Red.  The bumper piping fabric is Amy Butler- Full Moon Polka Dot in Cherry.  And the bumper is a basic white pique fabric from a local fabric store.

Then after a little online research, we found some easy DIY directions on how to make the crib skirt and bumper pads.  Erika at Urban Grace Interiors had a great concept of how to create a bed-skirt that could grow with the crib.  Each side of the crib skirt is its own panel that is tied to the spring system.  You just tie the ties according to the length of skirt you need.  That way the hem of the skirt is perfect when the mattress is high for a newborn, but still perfect once you lower it down for a toddler.

Then for the bumper pads we found these DIY Instructions over at Vanilla Joy. My mums modified them as she saw fit, but they gave her a good starting point.  {If you have specific questions let me know and I can get her to answer them for you.} I believe this is where she would also admit that she would never attempt to make them again.  The bumper pads proved ALOT harder to make than either of us thought.

But they are complete and all I have to say is that they look amazing!

Take a peak for yourself…

Words cannot express how appreciative I am that you did this for me mom!

Thank you! Thank you! xoxo

Happy Halloween!

October 31st, 2010

Thought this photo would make you guys laugh!

{And no I am not smuggling any pumpkins under my shirt!}

Mr. vB and I headed to the pumpkin patch last weekend to pick out our pumpkin for my brother’s Pumpkin carving party.

Once we Mr.vB found the perfect pumpkin, we he got busy creating a design.

Then he jumped right in with little Travers and Aunt Keri carving said pumpkin.

But in true vB style he brought a power tool with him.

Nothing like a Dremel tool to carve a pumpkin properly.

The little guys were in L-O-V-E

Here’s a photo of the whole pumpkin carving gang.

Maddy and Philip

Travers

Here’s our finished product! A little moldy from the hot and damp weather this week, but still looking good for the big night.

And here is the gang before they headed out for Trick-or-Treating.

Maddy- Cinderella, Gus- Santa, Philip- a pumpkin, and Travers- Spiderman

Happy Halloween to All!

Still Kickin..

June 24th, 2010

Hey All.  I’m still alive in case you were wondering if I had fallen off the face of the earth.  I have been traveling the past week and a half for work, which leaves little time for home improvements or blogging about them!

Baby vB is still kickin’ too- literally.  {He/She is doing somersaults and back flips as we speak.}  Only 4 days left until our ultrasound to see how the baby is doing and to find out if it’s a BOY or GIRL!  I am really excited to see the baby in general.  We haven’t had an ultrasound since week 4 and that was just to confirm the pregnancy.

Have no fear.. there will definitely be a post on Tuesday to let you guys know if we will be buying pink or blue for the next 5 months.

In the meantime I am going to leave you with this super cute photo of my bro and his 2 sons {travers and gus}.

Talk to you on Tuesday!!

Introducing….

June 14th, 2010

William Augustus Edwards

Born June 14, 2010 at 10:41am

8 lbs 2 oz and 18.1″ long

Mr. vB and I are so excited to welcome our newest nephew to the family.  We were anxiously awaiting his arrival this morning along with CeeCee, Honey, Mammama, and Pop in the waiting room.  The above photo was taken about 30 mins after he was born and he is the spitting image of his Big Bro Travers.

Here is the happy family after Travers met his little brother for the first time.  Nothing like a little Chic-fil-a to say, “Welcome to the World lil’ bro- want a waffle fry?”

Mom, Dad, and “Gus” are doing great and are expected to come home later in the week!

Congrats Marty and Travers!! We love you!!

Happy Mother’s Day!

May 8th, 2010

I spent an early Mother’s Day with my Mums and sis in law Marty today.  What fabulous women and mothers both these ladies are!

We started at our favorite restaurant in Newport News for a little lunch.

{sorry for the blurriness- the IPhone camera was not on its best behavior}

What did you expect? Something fancy?!?

Us Edwards’ gals love us some Hot Dog King.  Best Grilled Foot Long this side of the Mississippi.

Here’s a shot of my lunch.

You can call me plain-jane when it comes to my dog- it’s okay.  I like to see myself as a hot dog connoisseur.  No need for all the extra toppers, unless I know it’s not a high quality dog. In that case it helps hide the imperfections.

{you guys didn’t know I had such a scientific side to me, nor that I had such a love for hot-dogs did ya?}

After we devoured every delicious bite, we then headed over to check out my parents ALMOST finished house!!    I debated taking a few photos, but I want to wait until they are all moved in.  Then we’ll do the big reveal.  Can you believe though that on June 15th it will have been one full year since the explosion.  To my parents I know it has felt like an eternity.  I will be so happy when they are back at home and I know they will be too.

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!  Enjoy your day! YOU DESERVE IT!

Babysitting vB Style

April 11th, 2010

I thought this might amuse you guys. Mr. vB and I stepped up yesterday to help out our sick sister in law.  Her hubby was out of town and she had the 24 hr stomach bug.  We came to the rescue and whisked away Maddy (age 3) and Philip (age 8 months) to spend the day, and possibly the night, with Aunt TT and Uncle DD.

I had left the kids under Mr. vB’s supervision while I jumped in the shower.  This is how I found them when I got out.

I stopped long enough to take their photo and then jumped in bed with them.  I mean if your auntie and uncle can’t spoil you with a day in bed watching cartoons, who can?

Looking Good!

March 22nd, 2010

I forgot to mention that I stopped by my Parent’s New-Old house the weekend before last while I was in Newport News checking in on my Daddio.  The house is looking really good and the contractor is telling them he will turn the keys over sometime in early May!  All that is left to do is install the kitchen cabinets and granite, repair and re-sand the hardwood floors, install carpet, install all the plumbing fixtures, and hang wall paper!  WHOO-HOO!  I know my parents are beside themselves with anticipation of being back in their own house with their own things again!

Here are some before and almost after photos for you guys.

My Daddio…

March 5th, 2010

What a week! Sorry I have been missing in action.. My daddio got quite sick earlier in the week and it threw us all for a loop.  He is doing much better, but is still in the hospital.

Daddio is an avid bootsandtotty reader so I thought this post might brighten his day.

{LOVE YOU DADDIO- Feel Better!!}

On that note, thought we could all use something to smile about…

Here is my new front door accessory until it is time to break out my dragon fly for summer!

It was a Home Goods Steal and Deal for $1.39!!!!

Happy Friday!

House Update..

January 6th, 2010

Wanted to give you guys the update on my parent’s house.

{for any new readers, my parent’s experienced a terrible house fire back in June.  No one was hurt, thankfully, but the entire house was destroyed.  You can check out the progress of the house here.}

Things are coming along slowly but surely.  They are currently working on replacing the roof section by section… hence all the tarps.

Here’s a close up of the windows in one of the front bedrooms.

Look closely through them and you can see blue sky on the other side!  They must have been working on that section the day my mums took the photos.

And the Garage has also being rebuilt.

I think the best part is that my Mums still hung a xmas wreath on the front door.  That makes me smile.  You can burn their house down, but you can’t take away their spirit!

My parents are doing well and are trucking right along with making final decisions on things like the new interior finishes, the kitchen cabinets, and the sound-system.  I asked my dad if he was going to get one of those big remotes that controlled everything in the house, from the lights, to the speakers, to the toilet flushing. {Just like that remote Ozzy Osbourne used on his horrible reality show Meet the Osbournes. He never could figure out which button did what.  And Yes, I am admitting that I use to watch that show.} But the house still has quite a ways to go.  New electircal, HVAC, plumbing, windows, you get my drift.  I think at this point they are just hoping to get back in the house before the start of summer!
